Windows 11 may soon get support for third-party widgets

Windows 11 will reportedly get support for third-party widgets in the Microsoft Store soon. A few months ago, the tech giant rolled out the Windows 11 operating system with a new widgets panel that carries various types of cards and information such as news, weather and more. Currently, the OS does not support third-party widgets and it also does not allow users to pin widgets on the desktop. Now, as per a report by WindowsLatest, the company is planning to make a few big changes to its widgets features with the upcoming updates.
According to the report, Microsoft is planning to add support for third-party widgets in Windows 11 later this year version 22H2. Previously it was rumoured that the OS will get support for more widgets with version 22H2, however that is not the case. The report also reveals that no APIs related to third-party widgets were spotted in the initial incarnation of Sun Valley 2 or version 22H2 of Windows 11. To recall, support for third-party widgets was first introduced by the company with the launch of Windows Vista in 2007 and later the support was also added to the Windows 7.
With the recent release, Microsoft has also made it easier for users to switch default browsers in Windows 11. The Windows 11 build 22000.593 makes it easier for users to change their default browser. The operating system now gets a dedicated button in the control panel that allows users to pick the default browser of their choice. The change was first spotted by reverse engineer Rafael Rivera in Windows 11 build 22509 in the dev channel. It is an optional update.
With the launch of Windows 11, Microsoft changed the way users assign default apps. On the new operating system, users have to set default apps as per the file type or link type instead of a single switch.
