UChicago Track & Field Teams UAA Outdoor Championships with Six More Victories

ST. LOUIS – The University of Chicago track & field teams won six events on Sunday while wrapping up action at the two-day University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Championships.

The UChicago women placed second out of seven teams with 192 points scored. Host Washington University – St. Louis won with 286 points.

The Maroons picked up five wins on the women’s side, which included two new school records. First-year Loren Brown crossed the line first in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.45, besting the previous school record by 0.4 seconds. Fellow first-year Claudia Harnett also beat a school record by nearly half a second in the 1,500 meters, with a winning time of 4:30.59.

Senior Isabel Maletich completed her sweep of the horizontal jumps with a victory in the triple jump. Her top leap came in at 12.11 meters. Junior Isabel Layne was victorious in the 200 meters in 25.05, edging out the runner-up by a mere 0.02 seconds.

UChicago’s women also posted a trio of All-UAA performances. Brown was runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.26), and sophomore Molly Laumakis was third in the discus (37.21 meters). The 4×100-meter relay team took second in 48.54 with the quartet of first-year Maureen Gibbons, Layne, sophomore Masa Al-Shaka and Maletich.

The Maroon men finished fourth of seven teams with 120 points. WashU was the team champion with 207 points.

Senior Henry Myers led the men’s contingent with a win in the 5,000 meters. He crossed the finish line in 14:44.39. Sophomore Alex Lee took second in the high jump at 1.90 meters to earn All-UAA status. The 4×400-meter relay grabbed second in 3:18.17 with the foursome of sophomore Michael Han, senior Wilson Hansen, junior Jabari Owens and first-year Andrew Ray.

UChicago also garnered All-UAA honors in both hurdle events. Sophomore Renato de Angelis was third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.28) and Ray was third in the 400-meter hurdles (54.96).
