Tamil Nadu youth, an Indian Army reject, takes up arms on Ukraine’s side

India now reportedly has boots on the ground in the Ukraine war. One pair of boots, to be precise.

A Tamil Nadu youth has taken up arms in favour of Ukraine against Russia, according to a report based on intelligence input available with the Centre and the state government.

The youth, named Sainikhesh Ravichandran, is an 21-year-old from Subramaniyampalayam, located near Thudiyalur in Coimbatore.

The aerospace engineering student was reportedly rejected twice by the Indian Army because of his height. He had attempted to join Indian army after completing his schooling in 2018 but his height went against him.

After his attempt to be part of the army came to naught, he joined a course at National Aerospace University in Kharkiv in 2018.

He was pursuing the five-year course when the war broke out. A few days ago, he had told his family that he had got a job in a video game developing company.

Sainikhesh is now fighting alongside many others in the Georgian National Legion paramilitary unit, an outfit formed by volunteers, the report said.

People from Intel recently visited Sainikhesh’s home in Tamil Nadu. His family had tried to make him change his decision but he didn’t budge, they said.

Sainikesh’s parents told intelligence sleuths that he had a passion for military and arms training. The walls of his room are full of photos of Indian armymen and officers, wires agency IANS reported.

According to a family friend, Sainikesh had once even approached the American consulate in Chennai, asking if he had any chance of being able to join the US army.
