Maroon Swimming & Diving Sets New Pool Record on First Day of the Phoenix Fall Classic

CHICAGO – The University of Chicago swimming & diving teams started strong on day one of the Phoenix Fall Classic on Friday, winning six events and setting a new pool record.

With a total of 12 teams in attendance at the three-day meet, the Maroons began by winning six of 10 events contested. All told, UChicago posted 13 NCAA B-cuts.

The men’s 400-yard medley relay delivered a new pool record with a time of 3:14.42, besting the previous record of 3:14.54 that was set in 2020. The women’s 400 medley relay also posted a pair of B cuts from their top two quartets, finishing in 3:46.12 and 3:48.45. In those relays, Ioanna Georgopoulou (55.61) and Elisabella Forest (56.43) both delivered 100-yard backstroke B cuts as the leadoff legs. John Paul Phillips did the same in his 100 backstroke portion of the men’s medley relay, clocking in at 49.05.

Both men’s and women’s 200-yard freestyle relays combined for three NCAA B cuts. The men finished in 1:21.19 and 1:22.00, while the women touched the wall in 1:34.48.

In individual B cut races, Marcell Milo-Sidlo won the men’s 500-yard freestyle in 4:30.65. Garrett Clasen blew past the men’s 200-yard IM competition with a time of 1:48.33. Kyle Garcia also put up a B cut in the 200 IM (1:50.22). Annabel Olivo claimed victory in the women’s 50-yard freestyle with a B-cut mark of 23.58.
