Maroon Indoor Track & Field Wins Two Events on Day One of UAA Championships

WALTHAM, Mass. – The University of Chicago indoor track & field teams picked up a pair of event titles at day one of the 2023 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Saturday.

The Maroon women got off to a fast start with two event wins and six total All-UAA performances. The women’s distance medley relay produced the biggest highlight of the day – UChicago set a new UAA meet record time after winning in 11:39.14. The relay quartet featured Nora Holmes, Loren Brown, Claudia Harnett and Maddie Kelly. That time was also a new school record, bettering the previous mark of 11:43.07 set in 2022.

Susannah Truitt topped the podium as well in the pole vault with a winning height of 3.68 meters. Teammate Emilia Current took third at 3.58 meters.

Marina Semple was the runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 5.47 meters. Molly Laumakis took second place in the weight throw with a heave of 16.19 meters. Katarina Birimac was third overall in the 5,000 meters (16:59.27).

UChicago’s men received an All-UAA effort from the distance medley relay. The foursome of Joe Lemna, Michael Han, Jabari Owens and Cy Chittenden placed third in a time of 10:02.63. In the process, they broke a school record in that event that had stood since the 2004 season.
