College basketball rankings: Baylor earns unanimous No. 1 spot in new AP Top 25 poll

Baylor returned to being the unanimous No. 1 in the AP Top 25 on Monday following Arizona’s loss to Tennessee last week. The Wildcats fell from No. 6 to No. 9 following their 77-73 defeat on the road against the Volunteers. It was Arizona’s first loss of the season, and it was enough for the one AP voter who voted for the Wildcats at No. 1 last week to reverse course and return unanimous status to Baylor.

The Bears are 11-0 and scheduled to play Northwestern State on Tuesday before beginning Big 12 play with a massive showdown at No. 8 Iowa State on Saturday. This marks Baylor’s third straight week at No. 1.

Other notable movements in this week’s poll included Tennessee jumping five spots to No. 14 following the Arizona win and Michigan State rising into the top-10 at No. 10 after being at No. 11 last week. The Spartans are on a five-game winning streak and off to a 2-0 start in Big Ten play. Alabama dropped nine spots to No. 19 following its loss to Davidson, and Xavier dropped five spots to No. 23 following a 71-58 loss to Villanova, who rose a single spot to No. 22.
